The Ukraizy Canadian Project gets a makeover. New name and some changes to the website. Welcome to The Talking Motanka! The motanka is a unique doll to Ukraine, first created by the Trypillian people who populated the land that is now Ukraine. The motanka has a mysterious overall appearance -- with no face, so as not to attract a misguided soul. It's used for protection, guidance, and as a tool for magic.
Ukraizy Canadian has evolved from the fun language project it started out as back in 2018, but has since become a place for me to share my knowledge and experience as a woman with Ukrainian heritage, living in Canada. I'll provide what I know about our Ukrainian ways, and how our traditions were maintained or changed upon my family's arrival in Canada. Since Russia's invasion upon Ukraine in February, 2022, the tone has changed in my presentation. I want to make it plain that I'm proudly supporting our heroes in the country where my family comes from. I hope to encourage others to listen to our stories, and understand who we really are. The motanka dolls intrigue me, and I feel like I'm finally connecting to a part of our magical past that I've been sure was within me all along. Hence, why I've chosen the name The Talking Motanka. To wish you all happiness, good fortune, and love, just like a motanka was meant to do.
